firing up skype

i am going to be spending a lot of time in internet cafes beginning three days from now, and so i started thinking about the security of my communications. my email and IM are mostly being sent and received in cleartext. i have one mail account that connects via SSL all my email is now secure and two or three buddies on my AIM list have encryption enabled.

up until now i have thought it was fairly weak that apple does not make encryption for iChat easier to enable, but it didn’t bother me enough to migrate away from AIM. now that i will be on primarily public networks, i don’t want to be paranoid that someone in a cafe is sniffing my sensitive “OMG’s” and “ROFLCOPTERS”.

i think if i were working behind a corporate firewall, where it might be safe to assume that my employers were monitoring all cleartext traffic, i would use encryption as well 😉
