by the time people start realizing what has happened to all that katrina kash ($50 B so far, more on the way), it will be too late. i’m sure those $2,000 debit cards, a seeming fortune to many of the recipients, will distract people from where their relief money is really going: into the pockets of the same people who have consistently profited from the increasingly dangerous indebtedness of our country.
the white house espouses the efficiency of free markets and the ability of the private sector to do things much better than government can. while i may agree (with qualifications) in principle, their actions look much different, more like behavior for which racketeering laws should be applied.
