Dear Ms. Young
111 Minna Street Gallery has been a fixture of the San Francisco art, music and social scene for the past 10 years, creating an archetype here of the multi-faceted, multi-purpose gallery/bar/club that is now widely emulated throughout the city. In the original space in the South of Market district, our popularity and reputation have grown steadily, and we have had the great fortune to witness and serve as a community hub during the tremendous revitalization of this downtown neighborhood. We have launched the careers of local artists and brought the work of well-known ones to the Bay Area. We have served as hosts to innumerable charitable fundraisers and social events. We have broadened the cultural education of patrons who came just to dance, and for local businesses such as Levi Strauss and blah blah blah who have chosen our venue for business conferences.
Two years ago, we expanded the gallery at 111 Minna Street into the adjacent room. At that time we secured all proper permits as we believed to be necessary. Recently, however, we were informed by the San Francisco Police Department that the expansion in fact necessitated securing a new Place of Entertainment permit, along with an amendment to our Alcoholic Beverage Control license to reflect the increased area and additional bar we had constructed. As part of the procedure for obtaining this amended liquor license, we are petitioning the Board of Supervisors to recognize our business as serving the best interests of the people of San Francisco, in the form of a Public Convenience and Necessity resolution.
